OMB Appeal PDF Print E-mail

The developer appealed to the OMB to approve the plan to build a 103-unit multi-residential condominium complex on the former Mattamy property. As a concerned group of residents over the precedence this would establish for future infill development in our community, CMGRA joined the OMB as a party and later became a participant in the process.

Edgemere Estate Issue PDF Print E-mail

DO YOU WANT APARTMENTS, CONDOS, TOWNHOUSES IN YOUR BACKYARD?

Edgemere Estate consists of 12.4 acres and 300 metres of shoreline on the south side of Lakeshore Road East, and Maple Grove Dr.
You know it by the grand stone wall and beautiful gates (also known as the old Mattamy Estate). The current owner/developer has submitted a proposal to CHANGE our current RO1 zoning, single detached homes, to permit them to build 10 massive structures housing 3 condo units in each which amounts to approximately 120,000 square feet of multi-residential housing (after demolishing the existing home). In addition, these buildings would tower over the current height restrictions, by some 3 metres or almost 30%!

What's next, a variance for 5 stories? 10 stories?
This owner/developer wants to do this in our neighbourhood, an area that has been designated RO1 for more than half a century. RO1 means single family homes only! It's that simple- RO1 means no triplexes, apartments, NO CONDOS! This proposal sets a precedent we cannot accept. There is vacant land on Lakeshore opposite Brentwood Rd.; on Burgundy Drive; SE corner of lakeshore and Ford Dr.; the former Ross/Ruby estate on the south side of Lakeshore west of Charnwood. In addition there are many oversized lots throughout South-East Oakville with many owners of these properties just waiting to pursue the same course of action as Edgemere should that condominium project take place.

Fortunately it is NOT a done deal. No matter what you hear, read, or see (for example the advertising) in the newspapers.

The Conservation Authority still has to give their report to Town Planning; Planning must still do their report and give to Town Council where at that time Council will put the proposal to a vote. Surely you don't want to wake up to CONDOS in your backyard?

Protect our neighbourhood, its character, and the zoning that brought us all here by contacting those listed below and let them know you are OPPOSED to this proposal.
