Mississauga Public Rally - June 24, 2009 PDF Print E-mail

2009-06-17
CMGRA and friends…..our air-sharing neighbours in Mississauga are holding a big Community Rally to show public support for the fight against the proposed power plant. Oakville residents are invited to join them in making a big public statement on this issue. Please join with our neighbours in showing support on this issue.

If you have a lawn sign, bring it with you (maybe not the metal stake part though!). If you don’t, make your own sign, or print off the attachment and bring it along. Lawn signs are available through our website… www.cmgra.org

Details for the rally are outlined below……. TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS TOO!!!

Subject: Outdoor Community Rally re Power Plant: Wed. June 24 @ 7:00 p.m. behind Canadian Tire in Clarkson

Dear Citizen Colleagues: Somehow the very serious Power Plant issue has brought residents and neighbourhoods and communities together in a very uplifting way. Hundreds have attended a whole series of meetings over the past months and have spoken out strongly against the addition of an 850 MW gas-fired power plant to our already stressed Airshed.
The next key event is being hosted by the citizens through a dedicated committee of volunteers from Mississauga South.

Outdoor Community Rally

Wed. June 24 @ 7:00 p.m.

884 Southdown Road, Clarkson

We'll meet under the summer SKY (no Hall can hold us) in the Parking Lot of the Ontario Racquet Club, just behind Clarkson Crossing. We have permission to park in the Plaza parking lot (try biking!) -- then just walk back between Canadian Tire and the Metro grocery store and you're there! There will be a stage, music (be prepared to sing and cheer) and signs (please make your own) plus last-minute Petition-signing and Lawn Signs for sale ($2). Neighbours from Mississauga South and East Oakville will be speaking with one LOUD collective voice. Bring your family and friends!

As always, we've got the support of our local politicians including Pat, Carmen, Charles and Paul who all plan to attend.

Mayor Hazel McCallion will come to speak and to receive the thousands of signatures on the Petitions she'll then take to Premier Dalton McGuinty. This is a crusade. Our Mayor needs a HUGE show of support at the Rally -- she asked for the Petition in March to affirm the community's resolve, and we've come through. We've got a final big Petition PUSH on, including at the Gates of the Waterfront Festival this coming weekend. Please come by and sign, or drop off forms.
There's lots more info on the MIRANET website -- check out the Chalkboard on the Home Page. Go to www.miranet.ca to download the Petition, Flyers, a Map, a Fact Sheet and more. Let's all come together for the health of our community!
