November 5, 2012  - CMGRA Property Assessment Survey

We have all recently received our new Property Assessment Notices from MPAC, and many of us have been surprised by the new assessment values and the percentage increase since 2008.  As has happened in the past, some of us have noticed that these changes are not always uniform within our immediate neighbourhood.  One CMGRA board member had his home's assessed value increase by 22.5%, while his neighbour's values went up by only 12.5%.  The average for Oakville is apparently 21%

We thought it may be useful if we collected information from our area on the relative increases, so that members could use this to evaluate their own position, as many of us are considering filing appeals.  This may also help identify areas that have more significant increases applied by MPAC - this has happened in the past.

What we would like to know is what is the percentage increase in your property's assessed value from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2012.  This percentage can be calculated by dividing the first 2 numbers found on your Property Assessment Notice.

We hope to tabulate all responses by street, and provide a summary to all respondents.  We do not need to know the actual assessed values - just the percent (%) increase in valuation from 2008 to 2012.  Individual information will be kept confidential.  We will only share aggregate numbers.

To participate, just reply to this email with the following information, preferably by November 15th:

      1.  Your last name, first name

      2.  Your street address

      3.  The percentage increase in your property's value from 2008 to 2012
